Welcome to the Hamilton County Conservation web site! For over 50 years your local county conservation board has been providing you and your families outdoor activities like no other. Today Iowans in each county can participate in determining and realizing the benefits of outdoor recreation and the conservation of Iowa's natural resources as an essential investment for our future. We are very thankful for your support.

Why Carry In – Carry Out?
Please help us by doing your part with the three “R’s”. REDUCE, REUSE & RECYCLE.
Please take all trash you produce with you when you leave. With your support we can keep maintenance costs down and continue to keep Hamilton County Conservation areas as some of the most visited places in the state.

Starting July 1, 2010, the Hamilton County Conservation Board (HCCB) operations budget will be reduced 12% ($41,000) from property tax appropriations set by the supervisors. One-third of the HCCB operations cost comes through property tax appropriations from the Hamilton County Board of Supervisors. The remaining 2/3 budget for operations must be made by producing our own revenue (i.e. camping, shelter rentals, cabin rentals and golfing). Over the past two years, utilities have increased over 25% and rural water rates have just increased 22%. HCCB annually spends over $8,000 for trash removal services in our parks.

With decreased funding and increased costs HCCB sought ways to balance the budget yet continue to offer the public great recreational opportunities. It is simple to see that a reduction in funding will lead to a reduction in services. Our Board did not want to increase the camping fees in your county parks to offset increased costs. Some steps that are being taken include bringing on fewer seasonal help for mowing and maintenance, and carry in/carry out policy since that is one utility cost that we have some control over. Finally, we will try a new approach toward natural park settings versus a manicured mowed and trimmed look.

We strive to provide the best service available for our campers and park users; however, we do need to make necessary changes to help with the budget deficit. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at any time 515-832-9570.

This site will give you the history of the Hamilton County Conservation Board and what there is to offer for recreation in Hamilton County. We are pleased to offer three beautiful parks with camping and all the extras that go along with visiting them. We also offer an 18 hole public golf course and public natural resource areas.
